In 2016 Humphris Rallysport was asked to maintain and run the Nissan Micra for Dominic Hodge and Stefan Arndt in the BTRDA Rally First Championship. The championship is based around fairly standard cars with limited modifications to control the costs. There are 3 classes in Rally First, a class for the 1.0 Litre cars, 1.4 and 1.6 Litre cars. The goal was to try and win his class for cars up 1400cc
The team had help from lots of sponsors, Revolution Wheels, Ravenol Oils, Vital Fuels, Rallynuts and Yokohama tyres. We also had a big tie up with SPAX suspension to help test and develop some new double adjustable dampers for the rally car.
Dominic, who likes to point out he is an O.A.P. had a very good year. He came first in five of the eight rounds, second once and only had two non-finishes. He had a class win on the Malcolm Wilson Rally which was great, but what’s really amazing is that has he pulled away from the start line on the last stage he broke his crankshaft (pictured above). The Nissan Micra is such a strong and forgiving car it just kept going right to the very end.
Dominic and Stefan's achievements were better than they had hoped, resulting in them taking overall honours in the BTRDA Rally First Championship, proofing that even at 65 you can still have fun and beat the youngster.
We supply quality parts for the Nissan Micra to suit all budgets. The Micra is a fantastic car to get started in Motorsport. Visit the BTDRA website to find out more about how to get started.
